Luxury textiles — hand-knotted wool rugs, antique silk carpets, fine natural fibre floor coverings, and bespoke upholstered surfaces — are among the most valuable and most mishandled assets in any home. The wrong cleaning method, applied once, can cause irreversible damage. Here is how we protect them.
Why Luxury Textiles Require Specialist Care
Natural protein fibres like wool and silk are fundamentally different from synthetic fibres in their chemistry, structure, and response to cleaning agents. Wool fibres have a protective outer cuticle (the scale layer) that can be permanently damaged by alkaline cleaners, high heat, or mechanical agitation above certain thresholds. Silk is even more delicate — its sericin protein coating dissolves in alkaline solutions, causing irreversible dullness and fibre weakening. Neither fibre should ever be subjected to the high-temperature, high-alkalinity conditions of standard hot water extraction.
Handwoven and hand-knotted constructions add another layer of complexity. The tension structure of hand-knotted wool and silk rugs, the pile construction of Axminster and Wilton weaves, and the natural dye systems used in antique and artisanal textiles all respond differently to moisture, heat, and chemistry. A treatment protocol appropriate for a synthetic wall-to-wall carpet can destroy the structure and colour of a $15,000 hand-knotted Persian rug within minutes.
Our Luxury Textile Care Protocol
Textile Identification & Assessment
Every luxury textile is assessed before treatment: fibre type, construction method, dye system, backing material, existing damage, and contamination profile. This assessment determines the specific treatment protocol — there is no standardised approach for luxury textiles.
pH-Matched Formulation Selection
We select or custom-formulate a treatment agent matched to the specific pH requirements of the textile. Wool requires pH 5–7. Silk requires pH 4–6. Cotton and linen require pH 6–8. Applying the wrong pH, even briefly, can cause permanent fibre and dye damage.
Low-Moisture Application
All luxury textiles are treated using our low-moisture Nano Emulsion Technology. This eliminates the over-wetting risk that can cause dye bleeding, pile distortion, backing separation, and mould development in natural fibre constructions.
Controlled Temperature Treatment
Heat is a permanent enemy of protein fibres. Our process operates at room temperature throughout — never introducing heat that could cause irreversible wool felting or silk weakening.
Gentle Extraction & Grooming
Extraction is calibrated to the pile height and construction density of each textile. Post-extraction grooming restores pile direction and fibre alignment to the manufacturer's specification.
