Encapsulation Carpet Cleaning | How It Works | SpeedyDry

SURROUND

THE SOIL.

REMOVE IT DRY.

ENCAPSULATION

IS DIFFERENT.

Encapsulation cleaning uses polymer chemistry to surround soil particles, crystallize them into brittle fragments, and then remove them through routine vacuuming. It is a low-moisture method that dries fast and does not require extended wet time.

The Direct Answer

Encapsulation carpet cleaning applies a polymer solution to carpet fibre. The polymers surround (encapsulate) soil particles as the solution dries, forming brittle crystals that are no longer bonded to the fibre. These crystals are then removed by routine vacuuming over the following days. The process uses minimal moisture — typically drying in 30 to 60 minutes — and does not require a separate extraction step during the cleaning visit.

HOW THE

POLYMERS WORK.

The Chemistry

Encapsulation polymers are designed to crystallize as they dry. When applied to carpet, the solution penetrates the fibre and surrounds soil particles. As the moisture evaporates, the polymer forms a dry, brittle crystal around each soil particle — preventing it from reattaching to the fibre. The crystals are small enough to be removed by a standard vacuum cleaner. This is fundamentally different from surfactant-based cleaning, which relies on liquid extraction to remove suspended soil.

STRENGTHS AND

LIMITATIONS.

Where It Fits

Encapsulation excels at maintenance cleaning of commercial and moderate-traffic carpet. It is fast, low-moisture, and effective at preventing soil buildup. It is less effective for heavy restorative cleaning where deep soil has accumulated, or for situations requiring immediate soil removal (the crystals are removed gradually through vacuuming, not extracted during the cleaning visit). For residential carpet with visible soiling, a controlled-moisture extraction process may deliver more immediate results.

The SpeedyDry Approach

Right method for the right job.

SpeedyDry selects the cleaning method based on the fibre type, soil level, and use case. For commercial maintenance cleaning, encapsulation can be an effective option. For residential restorative cleaning, controlled-moisture extraction delivers more immediate soil removal. The right answer depends on the carpet, not the marketing.
