Steam vs Low Moisture Carpet Cleaning Victoria BC | SpeedyDry
Victoria
STEAM VS
LOW MOISTURE.
The Difference
Steam cleaning (hot water extraction) uses large volumes of water under pressure to flush soil from the carpet. Low-moisture cleaning uses controlled moisture — enough to dissolve and suspend soil, not enough to saturate the fibre and backing. The difference matters for drying time, residue, and fibre safety.
WATER IN.
WATER OUT.
Drying Time
Steam cleaning typically leaves carpet wet for 4–24 hours, depending on fibre, construction, humidity, and ventilation. Low-moisture cleaning targets 60–90 minute drying under favourable conditions. For Victoria homes and businesses that cannot close rooms for a full day, fast drying is a significant advantage.
Residue and Resoiling
Both methods can leave residue if the chemistry is not fully extracted. However, low-moisture methods use less solution and rely on thorough extraction, which reduces the risk of sticky residue that causes rapid resoiling. SpeedyDry uses a zero-residue approach with CRI Seal of Approval certified solutions.
Fibre Safety
Wool carpet is sensitive to over-wetting. High moisture can cause browning, shrinkage, and damage to the backing. Low-moisture cleaning with WoolSafe Approved products is the safer approach for wool and natural fibres. For synthetic fibres, both methods can be effective, but low-moisture still offers the drying advantage.
Which Is Right for You?
It depends. Ask us.
SpeedyDry uses a controlled-moisture, low-moisture process because it offers faster drying, lower residue risk, and better fibre safety — especially for wool. We do not claim low-moisture is universally superior; we explain the trade-offs and let you decide. The residential minimum of $279.30 plus GST applies.
