Carpet Fibres
NYLON IS
THE MOST
COMMON CARPET.
NYLON IS
ENGINEERED.
Nylon is the most widely used synthetic carpet fibre. It is known for its durability, resilience, and resistance to crushing — making it the default choice for high-traffic areas and commercial spaces.
What Is Nylon Carpet?
Nylon is a synthetic polymer fibre manufactured from petrochemical feedstocks. It is engineered for carpet use with specific properties: high resilience (the ability to bounce back from compression), excellent wear resistance, and good colour retention. Nylon carpet is common in Greater Victoria homes built from the 1980s onward, particularly in high-traffic areas and family homes.
HOW NYLON
INTERACTS WITH
WATER AND OIL.
Fibre Behaviour
Nylon is hydrophilic (water-loving) compared to olefin, meaning it absorbs some moisture during cleaning. It tolerates a wider pH range than wool, making it compatible with most cleaning methods. However, nylon is prone to staining from acid dyes (like food and drink spills) unless it has a stain-resist treatment. Oily soil can adhere to nylon and may require specific surfactants in carpet cleaning for effective removal.
WHAT CAN
GO WRONG?
Risks
Nylon carpet can experience: staining from acid dyes if the stain-resist treatment has worn off, texture damage from excessive heat, and carpet cleaning residue-related resoiling if cleaning solution is not fully extracted. Nylon is generally tolerant of professional cleaning methods, but the chemistry and temperature should be matched to the fibre and any manufacturer treatments.
The SpeedyDry Approach
Durable fibre. Controlled clean.
SpeedyDry cleans nylon carpet with controlled moisture and CRI Seal of Approval certified solutions. The process is effective for both maintenance and restorative cleaning. For nylon carpet with staining or resoiling issues, a corrective assessment can determine whether the problem is staining, residue, or fibre wear.
